1: "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2: Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith ..."
Jesus sees our life on earth as a Spiritual Marathon (talking about born again believers). But because we live on earth we must run our race according to Earth's Time Clock. Therefore our race is broken into segments called years. Each year is like a 60 Meter Sprint.
Notice, Jesus is the "Beginning" and the "Finisher" of our faith race. At a track meet, the finish line is also the starting line for the next race. So when we close out the old year and begin the new one, our race isn't over we are just ready to start a new leg of our marathon!!!
Verse 2 "Looking unto Jesus...” The Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending of our Spiritual Marathon!!! I like to say it this way, "When I keep my eyes on God's Word, I'm keeping my eyes on Jesus" and, "I keep my eyes on Jesus by keeping my eyes on God's Word!"
As we begin our new year, let's put Jesus first by being serious disciples of His Word!
