Maybe some of you will remember the old Nate King Cole song of this title.
I am thinking to myself has this summer been lazy, has it been hazy, has it been crazy? Maybe a little bit of all of it!
I hate being lazy! This morning I am thinking of all the directions I could take today.
I could continue computer work on a booklet I am composing for Pastor, or I could continue computer work on a book I am compiling for myself. I left both of those projects almost done when I went to Indiana in June to see my two oldest sons and their families – farmers. (Boy, do I love the farm!)
I could paint the closet doors at home. I could head over to the church and help with the bookstore. I could clean the house – Oh, not today! What direction should I take today, Lord?
First of all I need to consider the ant. Consider the ant! Really!
Proverbs 6:6, 8-11 “Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:… Provides her meat in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest. How long will you sleep, O sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: so shall your poverty come as one that travels, and your want as an armed man.”
Praise God I have never had a problem with wanting to sleep all day! How can people do that? Be productive! What can I accomplish today?
Then, has the summer been hazy? Well, yes with California wildfires the sky has been very hazy with smoke clouds, and then when not with that then hazy with 113 degree heat.
Consider this – Isaiah 43:2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you: when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon you.”
Well, it worked for Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego didn’t it!
Then, what about crazy? Has this been a crazy summer? For us personally it surely has! Pastor led a team from our church on a mission’s trip to Nicaragua while I went to Indiana. Then my oldest son is getting married in Gatlinburg, Tennessee soon thus the task of 10 (one pregnant) of us from California, and daughter Anne and granddaughter “Kiwi” flying down from Alaska to meet us to all fly together to Atlanta (airline tickets were cheapest to that city for 12 of us) then driving 4 hours to Gatlinburg. Our daughter from Florida and two more granddaughters are driving up to meet us. Not to mention two of my sisters, a niece and a nephew driving down from Rhode Island and Massachusetts to join in all of the festivities. A lot goes into a wedding sometimes, especially when it involves so many of us making a long trip. After years of praying for just the right woman to show up for my son, she has – all the way from the Philippines. She is a blessing and an answer to our prayers for the proper mate for him.
So as I consider my day today and what to do with the valuable 24 hours He has given each day to all of us, I need to remember Psalm 37:23 “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delights in his way.”
One day I was walking through the house praying, “Oh Lord, order my steps today.” And from out of another room yells my husband, Pastor Samples, “He said He already DID order your steps! You don’t have to ask Him to.” That was a good one! Our job is to just seek Him early and find out what the steps are that He has ordained for me to take each day. He already has our day all lined up. It is just up to us to find out what it is by spending time with Him.
Psalm 63:1-4 “O God, you are my God; early will I seek you: my soul thirsts for You, my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see Your power and Your glory, so as I have seen You in the sanctuary. Because Your loving kindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You. Thus will I bless You while I live: I will lift up my hands in Your name.”
Bottom line is this to my day, your day, our entire life! God has a plan! Seek Him every day to discover His daily plan for you, and seek Him for His life plan for you. What an awesome God we serve!
I won’t be lazy, I will work through the haze, and He will make the crazy rough roads smooth!
