Our December Scripture reading begins with Old Testament prophecies about Jesus, followed by the New Testament passages where they were fulfilled, and ends with the Nativity story. These might be good to read with your children during family Bible studies. 1. Virgin Birth: Isaiah 7:14; Isaiah 9:6-7; Matthew 1:20-23
2. Born in Bethlehem: Micah 5:2; Matthew 2:1-6
3. Messiah a Prophet: Deuteronomy 18:15; John 7:40-42; Acts 3:20-23
4. Tempted by Satan: Psalm 91:10-12; Matthew
I think about the times that we live in. I think about how the Lord had US to be born for such a time as this! WOW! Some people talk about how exciting it was for the first Christians to be used by God to usher in the church age, but He choose US to be born at this time, to help usher in the End of the Age and the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. What an exciting time He chose us to be born in! But what are we doing about it? I think about what Jesus said in Matthew 24:
The hymn “For the Beauty of the Earth” was written in 1864 by 29 year old Folliott Pierpoint who was mesmerized by the beauty of the countryside. “For the beauty of the earth, for the Glory of the skies.
For His love which from our birth, over and around us lies.
Lord of all to Thee we raise, this our hymn of grateful praise.” Whenever I ride through an area of profound beauty, that song comes to my heart and out my mouth. Recently I began singing it as I rode through the c
Maybe some of you will remember the old Nate King Cole song of this title. I am thinking to myself has this summer been lazy, has it been hazy, has it been crazy? Maybe a little bit of all of it! I hate being lazy! This morning I am thinking of all the directions I could take today. I could continue computer work on a booklet I am composing for Pastor, or I could continue computer work on a book I am compiling for myself. I left both of those projects almost done when I went
Life! What an awesome gift life is. But what do we do with it once it is given to us? Of course we were all born babies and had to grow and mature and make our way into adulthood, but what are we doing with our lives now? I have heard the old saying that life is God’s gift to us and what we do with it is our gift back to God! That is so true. It grieves my heart when I see people who are wasting away their lives addicted to drugs, alcohol, pornography, and other things.
Some people in life try to buck the system. They try to cheat their way through life. Personally, I have always loathed cheating! I remember when I was in my high school Geometry class I saw some of my fellow students cheating. That bothered me, because these particular students were smart enough that they didn’t need to cheat. Then what REALLY bothered me was that these same students were nominated into the National Honor Society! If only they knew! I never made the Nat
"We are MORE than conquerors through Him that loved us!” Romans 8:37 WOW! What a statement that is. If the word of God tells us that we are MORE than a conqueror through Jesus, then we must be! We have to maintain a right and proper attitude about who we are. The devil tries to convince us that we are losers, ugly, not qualified, not good enough, and on and on. He tries to surround us with fear – fear of failure. Fear that if we step out and do what He has placed on our heart
The Lord in His great wisdom left us with His book of instructions, His guidelines upon which to live our lives – the Holy Bible. Yet too many of His children are way too ignorant of it. Sometimes Christians are in complete agreement with God’s Word and sometimes they fall far short of it being influenced instead by the times in which we live, or by false doctrines that float here and there, or just by public pressure from the world. “O generation of vipers, how can you, bei
There are no short cuts in the Kingdom of God. We ALL have to do things God's way. He is no respecter of persons, but He is a respecter of His Word and of those who obey it. The Lord has established His Kingdom HIS way, but how many people think they can dance through life doing things their own way and still expect to grow spiritually and to still receive His blessings in their lives? Christians need to know that it is the Lord who established the local church. If He est
